Ticketed Center & Port Tour – October 17 -Get an exclusive look inside the nation’s largest offshore wind port, and tour the exterior of the operations and maintenance base that will power a landmark renewable energy project.
WindScape Brooklyn is proud to present the inaugural OHNY Weekend Tour of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Base and South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT), which will serve New York City’s first offshore wind project, Empire Wind. Located 15-30 miles off the coast of Long Island, the project’s 54 turbines will power approximately 500,000 homes upon completion.
This tour will allow participants to step onto a section of the largest offshore wind port in the United States, see the project’s large-scale infrastructure from a closer vantage point, and walk around the exterior of the O&M base that will serve Empire Wind through its three-decade lifespan. This is a once-in-a-generation project, built by local labor, that will help NYC and New York meet their renewable energy targets. Following the tour of the port, visitors will be able to explore WindScape Brooklyn’s interactive offshore wind exhibits.
Port tours will be led by Ana Fisyak, Executive Director, WindScape Brooklyn. Following the tour of the port, visitors will be able to explore the WindScape exhibition.
Tickets go on sale on October 2 at 12 pm on ohny.org.

There will be two showings of John Roach’s art installation, When We Bow Down Our Heads, at 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 5:00 PM, with a special closing live performance at 6 PM (More details coming soon)

Please note that WindScape Brooklyn will have abridged hours on Saturday, October 3, 1-4 PM. Our team will be visiting and learning about an offshore wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island, Block Island.

“When We Bow Down Our Heads” Art Installation | Sep. 26 – Oct. 24
Windscape Brooklyn is pleased to present a sound and video work for the immersive theater, the Storybox, created by John Roach.
Breezes, gusts and gales offer a visceral experience of climate as they batter, tickle and whistle their way through our human imagination. Wind is a central feature of our myths and our histories. It has shaped our lives for millennia and our earth for eons. Roach’s work, “When We Bow Down Our Heads,” celebrates the resonance of wind and its promiscuous and borderless nature with a quadraphonic soundscape that envelops the listener. It combines 10 years of spatialized field recordings, performances by Wolf Robert Stratmann (double bass) and Inbal Hever (voice), and is punctuated by interviews with climate scientist Joonsuk Kang, artist Raven Chacon, and illustrator Lauren Redniss.
Accompanying the sound is a work created for WindScape Brooklyn’s massive Storybox video wall which portrays a shifting landscape of windswept grasses, trees and turbines along with a scrolling graphic score that Roach created to guide the musicians who improvised with his soundscape.
Showings of this incredible installation will kick off at the end of Climate Week on September 26 and run through October 24.
During that window, showings will run during WindScape Brooklyn’s Public Open Hours from on the following days:
- Saturday, Sept. 26 — showings at 1 PM & 3 PM
- Saturday, Oct. 24 — showings at 1 PM, 3 PM, & 5 PM, with a special closing live performance at 6 PM (More details coming soon)
*Please note than on October 17, WindScape Brooklyn will be hosting a ticketed event through Open House New York. If you attend this event, you will have access to this installation!
